SPACES FOR EVENTS
The Sala São Paulo, considered to be the best concert hall in Latin America, was inaugurated in 1999, in the former headquarters of the Sorocabana Railway Company, a historical heritage building in São Paulo that dates from 1938. The former railway station, which is still functioning, preserves the memory of the golden age of the coffee boom and of the transformations that the city has undergone since the beginning of the last century.
This monumental building, only partially finished as a consequence of world financial crises, was chosen to become the headquarters of the OSESP (the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra). The restoration project was designed to adapt the building for its new role whilst preserving the original architecture. The interior garden courtyard, with its Greek-style columns and perfect proportions, provided a large space with acoustic potential that was duly converted into a concert hall.
The mobile acoustic lining, consisting of 15 free-standing panels, makes it possible to alter the volume inside the concert hall, adjusting the acoustics to fit each performance – ranging from those of small chamber and choral groups to performances by full orchestras. Each feature of the Sala São Paulo hall was designed to make it one of the best and most beautiful venues in the world, which harmoniously brings together history, technology and the arts.
The venue comprises the following areas: the Concert Hall, the Main Hall, the Foyer, the Arts Space, the Hall of Arches, the Carlos Gomes Hall, the Camargo Guarnieri Hall and the Great Hall. The Sala São Paulo venue thus offers a wide range of options for hosting cultural and social events. Its specialized technical support team and up-to-the-minute technology guarantee the problem-free staging of high-quality events.
